BRANDING → CREATIVE DIRECTION → TYPOGRAPHY → ILLUSTRATION → PHOTO RETOUCHING

Studio C is a student agency at Chapman University that allows Graphic Design students the chance to work with real-world clients. While a professor acts as a Creative Director, students lead calls and presentations for clients, pitch concepts and work as a collective to create professional and exceptional work. During my time at Studio C, I worked with three accounts, all based in Orange County: Project Social, Jay Beauty, and San Juan Hills Golf Club.

PROJECT SOCIAL

OVERVIEW

Project Social is a trendy, playful social hub that serves coffee by morning and beer by night, embracing a laid-back feeling with their brand slogan “slow down, drink up.” Project Social strives to “embody the third place”. This project involves creating a merch line for Project Social, including three t-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, and hats. The merch will be designed in an American traditional tattoo style with inspiration from classic brewery merch and nautical theming. The merch should reflect the brand’s lighthearted tone and target a wide audience of brewery goers.

RESEARCH

Project Social is a community-oriented tap house/tavern established in 2019 in Dana Point, California. Project Social strives to serve as a social hub for friends and family to engage with one another. Project Social’s brand identity taps into California surf culture/the West Coast lifestyle. They feature a local artist every month as well as social events like trivia nights, comedy shows, and live music. American Traditional tattoo style (aka “Old School”), emerged in the late 19th century and was heavily influenced by sailors and sailing culture. The style is characterized by bold black outlines with a limited but vibrant color palette. The main colors of the style are primarily red, green, yellow, and blue. The style was popularized by “Sailor Jerry” (aka Norman Collins) who had a shop in Honolulu that was popular among soldiers and sailors. Common themes in the American Traditional style include pin-up, lettering, nautical, zoomorphic, portraits, floral, and many more.

JAY BEAUTY

OVERVIEW

Sweat & Tell was founded in 2017 by Jo & Jacqs as a way to share their healthy lifestyle with others. Since then, they have launched two sub-brands, Jay Beauty and Define, making it even easier for their audience to prioritize self-care and wellness. The goal of this project is to develop branded graphics for their social media, paid ads, and website across all three brands. We focused on a new lip product launch, their best-selling hair products, and new fitness equipment.

I focused on creating the social media campaign assets for the launch of their newest product for Jay Beauty. My tasks included photo retouching, creative direction, and layout specifically for sponsored posts.

Jo & Jacqs are two best friends and certified trainers whose mission is to share their authentic approach to self-love and body confidence through health and wellness. All three of their brands feel approachable, welcoming, and playful. They have an intentional, elevated aesthetic geared towards women ages 18-35. Through Sweat & Tell, the two share workouts, healthy recipes, and tips for a balanced life on their blogs, Instagram, and YouTube videos. Their fitness app, Define, is designed to be an approachable way for women to develop and commit to a workout routine that works for them, no matter their skill level or schedule. Jo and Jacqs also launched Jay Beauty, focusing on making self-care an accessible luxury with simple products made with clean ingredients.

SAN JUAN HILLS GOLF CLUB

OVERVIEW

San Juan Hills Golf Club is a prime place for golf, big events, and fine dining for those who seek luxury. Open to the public, you’ll find a game here every day of the week. Since their latest improvements, the golf course has offered the best greens and fairways in South Orange County, while being awarded the Best Golf Course of Orange County in 2022. The purpose of this project is to create branded graphics for their website and social media while adding and designing a series of improvements across their advertising. For their social media, new life is being breathed into the posts found on Instagram, from style to message.

I led the team for Social Media graphics to create a new branded system that not only elevated the Golf Course’s social media but also allowed SJHCG flexibility and consistency with their posts.

RESEARCH

San Juan Hills Golf Club, nestled in the scenic hills of San Juan Capistrano, California, is a premier public golf destination offering an 18-hole, par-71 championship course spanning 6,317 yards. The course features a diverse layout with elevation changes and undulating greens, catering to golfers of all skill levels. Beyond golf, the club boasts extensive amenities, including a full-service golf shop, a lighted driving range with grass and mat hitting areas, and the 19 Sports Bar & Grill, which offers indoor and outdoor seating, live music, and daily breakfast. San Juan Hills is renowned for hosting a variety of events, from small company outings to full-course tournaments, supported by its 7,000-square-foot banquet facility and experienced staff. The venue also provides picturesque settings for weddings and private events, such as the Cascada Lawn and Green View Room, accommodating up to 250 guests.

We created multiple custom icons to allow variation across the posts, while also adding to the branding experience. These icons were also used in the updated website design.

Streamlined, editable templates were created to give the golf course ease and consistency for its announcements. We made multiple color ways and guides to help the golf course keep the visuals fresh, exciting, clean, and minimal.
